🏍️ A Silver-Black Sea — Aprilia Dominates Le Mans
Le Mans — the legendary Bugatti Circuit was transformed into a sea of silver and black on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Not Ducati. Not KTM. Not Yamaha. Aprilia Racing conquered everything. In the fifth round of the 2026 Michelin Grand Prix of France, Aprilia wrote history that has never been seen in the modern MotoGP era — a clean sweep of the podium, 1-2-3, with three riders from two different teams all aboard the RS-GP26. This was Ducati's darkest hour and the most glorious day in Noale's racing soul.
🔥 27 Laps of Pure Fire — The Race Unfolds
From Friday onwards, Le Mans signalled it belonged to Aprilia. Marco Bezzecchi topped Practice, Jorge Martin led FP2. Yet in qualifying, Francesco Bagnaia snatched pole position for Ducati — a glimmer of hope for the Italian factory.
The lights went out at 14:00 local time under clear skies, air temperature 22°C, track temperature 38°C, with 103,000 fans filling every grandstand. Bagnaia launched perfectly from pole to lead Lap 1. Bezzecchi slotted into P2, and home hero Fabio Quartararo carried the nation's hopes in P3.
But starting from P7, it was Jorge Martin who grabbed the attention. "The Martinator" gained four positions before the first corner was even completed. Through the Dunlop Chicane on Lap 1, he passed Quartararo. Lap 2 saw him close on Bezzecchi — though not yet past. Instead, it was Bezzecchi who struck first: diving past Bagnaia at Turn 9 on Lap 3 to seize the lead.
From that moment, the race became an all-Aprilia duel. Bezzecchi ahead, Martin shadowing him at 0.8 seconds. Both pulled 2.5 seconds clear of the chasing pack. The stage was set for something special.
✨ The Martinator Strikes — First Aprilia Victory!
The defining moment arrived on Lap 21.
Bezzecchi, having led for 18 laps, began to lose grip on his medium-compound rear tyre. Martin, on the softer rear option, still had plenty left. Into Turn 6 — La Chapelle — Martin braked later than anyone dared, diving down the inside in a move so aggressive it nearly made contact. Bezzecchi defended the line, but Martin had the courage and the grip to hold on.
Once ahead, Martin stretched away. He set the fastest lap of the race — a blistering 1:31.102 on Lap 22 — and crossed the line after 27 laps in 41 minutes 18.001 seconds, 0.477 seconds clear. This was not just another win. This was Jorge Martin's first premier-class victory with Aprilia Racing since switching from Ducati at the end of 2024. After a season and a half of injuries, adaptation, and criticism, he had broken through.
In parc fermé, Martin was in tears. He embraced Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola.
"Two very difficult years. People said I was wrong to choose Aprilia. Today I proved this bike can win. Thank you Marco — he pushed me to be faster."
🇯🇵 Dream Come True — Ai Ogura's Fairytale Podium
If P1 and P2 were the factory Aprilia show, P3 was pure magic. Ai Ogura, the Japanese rookie riding for Trackhouse Racing Aprilia, started from P9 and fought his way through a ferocious pack that included Fabio Di Giannantonio, Pedro Acosta, and Fabio Quartararo. On Lap 15 he dispatched Quartararo; on Lap 19 he passed Acosta at the Museum corner with a breathtaking outside line.
He crossed the line just 0.874 seconds behind Martin to become the first Japanese rider to stand on the premier-class podium since Takaaki Nakagami in 2020 — and the first podium of his entire MotoGP career. The Aprilia party was perfect: 1-2-3, all RS-GP machines.
Behind them, Di Giannantonio secured P4, Acosta P5, and Quartararo P6 — Yamaha's best result of the season to date, sending the French crowd home cheering.
💔 Ducati's Darkest Day — Everything Unravels
While Aprilia celebrated, Ducati's world fell apart.
1. Marquez' Sprint Horror
It began on Saturday afternoon. Marc Márquez, battling Bezzecchi for P3 in the Sprint Race, suffered a terrifying highside at Turn 7 at 180 km/h. He was thrown ten metres through the air. Medical scans confirmed a fractured metatarsal in his right foot and shoulder contusion. He was declared DNS for Sunday's race and ruled out of the next round at Catalunya. Ducati Lenovo would race with one bike.
2. Bagnaia: Pole to Gravel
Starting from pole, Bagnaia needed to rescue Ducati's weekend. Instead, he delivered his worst performance of the season. After losing the lead on Lap 3, he tumbled backwards: passed by Quartararo on Lap 8, by Acosta on Lap 10, and on Lap 12, trying to retake P5 from Di Giannantonio at Turn 10, his front tyre washed away and he slid into the gravel. Zero points from pole. Two races without scoring.
3. Álex Márquez Follows Suit
It didn't end there. Álex Márquez, running P7 for Gresini Ducati, also crashed at Turn 4 on Lap 4 — at the very same corner where his brother had fallen. His Desmosedici GP25 was destroyed. Both Márquez brothers left Le Mans with nothing.
The consequences were stark: Aprilia now leads the Constructors' Championship, 156 points to Ducati's 142. In the riders' standings, Bezzecchi remains top on 98, but Martin has surged to second on 87 — just 11 points behind.
